Shipping faster without burnout

Velocity is a lagging indicator of clarity. When teams feel pressure to ship faster, the reflex is often to add hours or parallelize workstreams. The sustainable move is to tighten feedback loops and shrink batch size so each release carries less risk and less cognitive load.

I use a simple operating cadence: define a crisp slice of value, time-box discovery, instrument the risky assumptions, and ship behind feature flags when the blast radius is non-trivial. Retros focus on system fixes—not heroics.

Burnout is rarely about ambition; it is about unpredictability. Predictable delivery beats heroic bursts every time.
